Bio
Sasha Darbeau, formerly Braithwaite, 48 years old, recently celebrated her 25th anniversary of being called to the Bar as an Attorney at Law, on 23rd October, 1998. She is the incumbent Divisional Manager, Legal at the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT), since 2017. In 2023, she was appointed to chair UDeCOTT’s Procurement and Disposal Advisory Committee, charged with making recommendations for awards and variations of contract, compliant with the procurement Laws of Trinidad and Tobago. From 2005 to 2017, Ms. Darbeau served as the Manager of Legal and Tenure Regularisation at the Land Settlement Agency (LSA), also acting as its Chief Executive Officer in 2016, pursuant to its mandate under the State Land Regularisation of Tenure Act and IDB funded programmes to develop infrastructure, plan and regularise State land and informal settlements thereon. For 6 1/2 years prior, from 1999 to 2005, Sasha practised litigation at the Supreme Court Civil Bar as the Senior Associate of a private law firm, instructing in judicial review applications, constitutional motions, injunctions, defamation, industrial relations, banking, breach of contract, contentious probate, conveyancing and a few matrimonial law matters.
Over the last 7 years, her legal and professional acumen have been, honed in corporate strategy and solutions in public procurement, project management, construction, negotiating and preparation of FIDIC and facilities maintenance contracts in the range of millions to billions, negotiating restructured credit facilities, litigation management, commercial business development and Public Private Partnership contractual arrangements.
Among her diverse years of experience in public, private and civil sectors, she served on 2 Cabinet appointed committees in 2010 and 2016, respectively: the UNDP National Action Plan against land degradation and related impacts and Steering Committee for the World UN Habitat III conference in Ecuador for the New Urban Agenda. Sasha served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity Trinidad and Tobago for 4 years from 2000; 2 years from 2001 as a Board Member of the Youth Training and Employment Partnership Programme; 7 years from 2003 in Local Government as an Alderman and from 2016 to present, serves on the Board of the Eastern Regional Health Authority, elevated to Deputy Chairman in 2018. She has also received training and certification in several areas of her practice including Alternative Dispute Resolution and Performance Management. She is a proud mother of Cacique- 10, Miracle- 15 and Kennedy- 23; Kennedy having just graduated from Victoria College of the University of Toronto in June 2023.
