The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation held its bi-annual Honouree of the Year Dinner on November 8, 2004.  To the delight of JDRF, its committees and aNd Logistix Inc, over $900 thousand was raised in search for a cure for diabetes.  Through the careful management of committees and volunteers, the evening was a huge success due in part to its live and silent auctions and Fund-A-Cure components.
The aNd Logistix Inc. team, led by Shawna, has been diligently working over the last several months to prepare for the Shoppers Drug Mart National Conference held in Orlando, Florida in February 2004.  Over 1800 delegates were serviced through the registration process, including hotel accommodations, air travel, ground transportation and group tours.  A magical time in Disney was had by all!
Beatriz has been working closely with the Investment Dealers Association of Canada on their two annual conferences.  The SRO Conference was a huge success with over 250 delegates from the financial sector coming together in Toronto to learn about compliance issues.  This year, the Annual General Meeting and Conference will be held in majestic Mont-Tremblant, Quebec.
Bienvenue chez Montreal!
Montréal, Québec hosted the itSMF Canada National Conference in November 2003.  Delegates from all over Canada and some international guests enjoyed the tremendous hospitality of the Montreallers at the Hilton Montréal Bonaventure.  The Québec culture intertwined into the 2-day program which included two outstanding keynotes as well as various breakout sessions.  Conference partners benefited from timeslots within the agenda to showcase goods and services as well as the exhibitor fair which exposed exhibitors to the delegates during breaks and receptions. Entertainment included a survivor treasure hunt and games, handwriting analyst, Elaine Charal and local Montréal gymnasts.
aNd Logistix was thrilled to be nominated for the 7th Annual Canadian Events Industry Star Awards in two categories:

Best Opening Event for the 'STIR at Thirteenfortyfive' opening night

Best Fundraising Event for the Honoree of the Year Dinner, Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation

Top Tip
At aNd Logistix Inc., we pride our ability and expertise in providing our clients with cost reducing tips.  Here are a few common tips:

  • Choose continental breakfasts and buffet lunches over plated meals.
  • Remember your 10% no show factor and venue over-set percentages. Provide your venue with guarantees accordingly.
  • Choose items such as cheese and vegetable trays over passed hors d'oeuvres at receptions.

More and more not-for-profit agencies and charity foundations are incorporating auctions in to their fundraising events. The combination of live and silent auctions at an event can be a major source of revenue, but they can also become extremely complex and time consuming.

The expertise of an event management company can assist any organization at any event to incorporate these components and do so successfully.  Some critical criteria that are vital not to overlook can include the following:

  • A strong volunteer based committee to procure attractive auction items is critical.  These committees tend to be made up of many members and need direction during their planning meetings and during the stages of procurement.

  • The hiring of a professional auctioneer will help to maximize the bidding on items as well as preserving the integrity of the event. The difference between an auctioneer and a celebrity master of ceremonies/ host must be made as one cannot do the job as well as the other.

  • Auctions depend largely on volunteer staff, both during the planning stages and on-site.  It is imperative that volunteers are matched appropriately to jobs, are provided detailed job descriptions and are well trained for the job they are expected to do.  Again, managing volunteers can become a full-time job on its own and needs as much attention as the event itself.  And, never forget to thank your volunteers profusely!

  • Auction items must be collected early enough in the planning process in order to have them on display at the event.  Guests enjoy being able to see and feel items as they shop.  Making the items look appealing is important to draw guests to them.  Just as important is to provide guests with a catalogue detailing all items up for auction with appropriate descriptions and pricing information.
