Shawna and Morgan joined their fellow PCMA members at the Annual Tri
City Food Bank Volunteer Day on Thursday, November 6 at the Daily Bread
Food Bank. Prior to unpacking and organizing skids of donated food, we
learned startling statistics about those in need.

In Ontario, 318,540 people visited a food bank in March 2007, with
children accounting for 39% of those assisted. With these statistics in
mind aNd Logistix has decided to visit the Daily Bread again to donate
our time and collected food items.

CICA & aNd Logistix
aNd
teamed up with the CICA to assist with online registration for 3 conferences
this fall, totaling over 800 registrants. We helped with the design and
functionality of the registration page, including online fee collection. aNd
also assisted with packing conference bags with sponsor materials and shipping
the printed name badges to each of the conference locations.

Eclipsys & aNd Logistix Partner for EUN2008
aNd
Logistix was happy to work with Eclipsys to develop a registration
website to register attendees for EUN 2008 in Atlanta. The aNd Team
travelled onsite to Atlanta to help with registration and work alongside
the Eclipsys events team throughout the conference.
EUN 2008 had a record breaking 1149 registrants for their annual
conference this year. We were able to design an online check-in system
for use when delegates picked up their name badges onsite which allowed
real time reports of check ins and no shows. Our registration system is
integrated with Chase Paymentech to collect and process registration
fees as the form was being completed.
An added feature for name badges that we produced was bar coding to track
attendance at sessions. Each delegate was assigned a code which allowed
their information to be tracked for both exhibitors and continuing
education credits.

Passport to Beauty -
Shoppers Drug Mart Cosmetics 2008
Planning
for this years’ conference included sending trucking and delivery instructions
to over 45 vendors that would be sending us 1200 products samples each! Our
receiving department was in full swing as trucks dropped off boxes of product
for our staff to put into bags for the cosmetic managers. The bag of products
that each attendee received weighed a whopping 12 pounds!
Excited cosmetics managers picked up their bag after visiting the trade show
on Sunday night. Upon entering the Passport to Beauty themed trade show,
attendees were handed a passport by very friendly flight attendants (one of them
being Shawna!). Delegates walked into the hall resembling an airport lounge, and
while visiting the exhibits had the opportunity to see the world. Mexico, China,
Italy and Greece were represented by food and entertainment, while a world
ensemble added energy all evening long.
The two day conference also included workshops sponsored by 7 different
vendors, who offered exciting training and education sessions. The Cosmetics
Conference in 2009 will take a road show format as our staff travel to cities
across Canada!

Denmark
It is a good sign to find your door heaped with a pile of broken
dishes at New Years. Old dishes are saved year around to throw them at
the homes where their friends live to “smash” in the New Year. Many
broken dishes were a symbol that you have many friends!
Ireland
At midnight everyone goes in the front door and out the back door for
good luck.
Italy
Children sometimes get money as gifts, and people give oranges on New
Year's Day.
British Columbia
Traditionally, the polar bear swim takes place on New Year's Day,
where people of all ages dive into the icy water.
Puerto Rico
Kids throw water out their windows at midnight to get rid of evil
spirits.
Spain
People pop a grape into their mouth at midnight each time the clock
strikes. Twelve grapes symbolize good luck for each month of the year.
Australia
Many Aussies have picnics and camp out on the beach on New Years Day
Holland
Traditional New Year foods are also thought to bring luck. Many
cultures believe that anything in the shape of a ring is good luck,
because it symbolizes "coming full circle," completing a year's cycle.
For that reason, the Dutch believe that eating donuts on New Year's Day
will bring good fortune.
New York
For one hundred years, the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball has
attracted millions of revelers to Times Square
The new Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball is a 12 foot geodesic sphere,
double the size of previous balls, and weighs 11,875 pounds. Covered in
2,668 Waterford Crystals and powered by 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel
LEDS, the new ball is capable of creating a palette of more than 16
million vibrant colors and billions of patterns producing a spectacular
kaleidoscope effect atop Times Square. More than 1 ton of confetti is
dropped on Times Square.
